Terri Codlin was raised as an Army brat relocating every few years with her family throughout the United States and Europe. She attended Iowa State University and received her degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Minnesota. Military obligations then called her husband, Jim, to serve in the Air Force and the couple journeyed to California where their son Craig was born. The Vietnam War called Jim to serve in Taiwan. Terri and Jim began their love and appreciation of Asian Art during their brief sojourn in the area. Reentering civilian life allowed Terri to resume her teaching career. While pursuing her Montessori certification, she and her young daughter, Meredith, both went to the same school in the Chicago area. The Codlin family moved to LaGrange, Georgia in 1981. After 24 years of teaching preschool children, she retired and began to explore her love of the arts.
As a teacher of young children, I was able to satisfy my creative urges designing games and learning materials for my classroom. I also was constantly intrigued with the latest craft techniques and enjoyed many hours of needlework, sewing and designing. Exploring various art mediums has been such a freeing experience. Now I am the student and am thoroughly captivated in the learning process as I invent, experiment and take risks. The result is a feeling of incredible satisfaction and fulfillment. I feel just as my preschoolers did when they “connected” with the concept I was teaching. It is like having an inner light turned on. I relish reading about new techniques and look forward with great anticipation to each day that I can immerse myself in these new ventures.
